Yankees add three pitchers and one infielder to Major League roster

Earlier Friday, the Yankees made the following roster moves:

Added RHP Roansy Contreras, RHP Yoendrys Gomez, INF Oswald Peraza and RHP Alexander Vizcaíno to the Major League roster.

Contreras, 21, is 16-11 with a 3.25 ERA (249.1IP, 209H, 111R/90ER, 74BB, 207K, 19HR) in 50 appearances (47 starts) over three Minor League seasons (2017-19). During the 2019 season, the right-handed pitcher led the Yankees organization and South Atlantic League in wins, going 12-5 with a 3.33 ERA (132.1IP, 105H, 55R/49ER, 36BB, 113K, 10HR) in 24 starts with Single-A Charleston. He also ranked fifth among SAL leaders in ERA and fourth in innings. The Yamasá, Dominican Republic, native was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2016.

Gomez, 21, is 8-9 with a 3.69 ERA (139.0IP, 124H, 67R/57ER, 59BB, 136K, 6HR) in 35 appearances (32 starts) over three Minor League seasons (2017-19). In 2019, the Nirgua, Venezuela, native went 4-5 with a 3.99 ERA (56.1IP, 54H, 30R/25ER, 19BB, 53K, 3HR) in 12 starts between Rookie-level Pulaski and Single-A Charleston. Following the 2020 season, he was tabbed as the Yankees’ No. 9 prospect by Baseball America. The right-handed pitcher was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2016.

Peraza, 20, has hit .267 (166-for-622) with 107R, 22 doubles, 6 triples, 5HR, 65RBI, 58BB and 44SB in 159 games over three Minor League seasons (2017-19). During the 2019 season, he hit .263 (69-for-262) with 38R, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 4HR, 20RBI and 23SB in 65 games between short-season Single-A Staten Island and Single-A Charleston. His 23 stolen bases were the third-most among Yankees Minor Leaguers. Following the 2020 season, he was ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the Yankees organization and labeled as having the “Best Infield Arm” among Yankees farmhands by Baseball America. The Cabudare, Venezuela, native was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2016.

Vizcaíno, 23, is 12-20 with a 4.89 ERA (259.1IP, 279H, 163R/141ER, 97BB, 261K, 30HR) in 56 appearances (50 starts) over four Minor League seasons (2016-19). The right-handed pitcher attended Spring Training this season as a non-roster invitee, making three relief appearances (all in Florida) for the Yankees (3.0IP, 4H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K, 1HP, 1WP). He was part of the Yankees’ 60-man player pool and spent the season at the Alternate Site. In 2019, the San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, native combined to go 6-6 with a 4.38 ERA (115.0IP, 113H, 61R/56ER, 38BB, 128K, 8HR) in 21 starts with Single-A Charleston and Single-A Tampa. He ranked fourth among Yankees Minor Leaguers in strikeouts and was named a 2019 South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star with Charleston. Following the 2020 season, Vizcaíno was tabbed by Baseball America as the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect and was also labeled as having the “Best Changeup” among Yankees farmhands. He was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on May 18, 2016.
