Soto Ready To Go

We are only a week away from Juan Soto’s first regular season game as a Yankee! Excitement to see Soto in uniform when the games begin to count has built every time he has stepped up to bat in Spring Training. The 25-year-old superstar looks right at home with the Bronx Bombers, hitting .324 in Grapefruit League play with seven extra-base hits in 40 plate appearances, including three home runs. He also gave us a very nice shout on Tuesday when YES celebrated its 22nd anniversary, matching his uniform number.

Pinstriped Pulse

Giancarlo Stanton mashed three home runs against the Pirates on Wednesday, with his drives traveling a combined total of 1,334 feet! Gleyber Torres had a couple of hits out of the leadoff spot in that game, boosting his batting average in Spring Training up to .351. Anthony Rizzo is batting .412, while youngsters Anthony Volpe (.313) and Austin Wells (.344) look like they are primed to build on the first impressions they made in the Majors last season. Carlos Rodón has posted a 2.93 ERA over 15.1 innings, including, including 5.2 no-hit frames against the Phillies on Monday. Ian Hamilton has thrown 8.1 innings of one-hit ball with 13 strikeouts.

Nestor Gets The Call

When Aaron Boone announced Nestor Cortes as the Yankees’ Opening Day starter, Cortes gained entry into a small group. A 36th-round pick of the Yankees in the 2013 Draft, Cortes will become only the seventh MLB pitcher drafted in round 30 or lower to make an Opening Day start since 1965, the first year the process was implemented. 1996 World Champion Yankee Kenny Rogers is also on that list, but only one of those previous six pitchers started a season opener for the Yanks: Doc Medich, a 30th-round selection of the Yankees in the 1970 Draft, who started their first game of the 1975 season.

3.21_Trip to Mexico[30]

Trip to Mexico

Shortly before they open their season in Houston, the Yankees will have a couple of split-squad days that are going to include games in Mexico. On Sunday and Monday, while teammates are playing against the Pirates and Mets in Florida, members of the Yanks will be in Mexico for a pair of exhibition games against the Diablos Rojos del México at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City. It will be the Yanks’ first trip there since 1968 and the games will mark matchups between the teams that hold the most titles in their respective leagues - 27 for the Yankees and 16 for the Diablos Rojos in the Mexican Baseball League.

#YANKSonYES

We’ll get started at 3:00 p.m. on Opening Day next Thursday, when the Yanks begin the new campaign with the first of four games in Houston.
