Tipping Off

Brooklyn matches up with Toronto this evening on the final night of Group Play in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament. With a 2-1 record in Eastern Conference Group C, the Nets can win the Group outright with a victory over the Raptors and a Celtics loss to the Bulls, or they can win it on point differential if the Nets defeat Toronto by at least 15 and the Celtics win by 22 or fewer. A win over the Raptors would also keep Brooklyn alive in wild card scenarios that would also involve the Knicks, Heat, and Cavaliers. Results of Group Play are going to determine how Brooklyn’s schedule will look following Saturday’s clash with an Orlando team that has won its last seven games. Between action versus the Raptors and Magic, the Nets will face a Charlotte squad that has won two of its last three following a 3-9 start to the season.

Nets Notes

On Sunday, the Nets hit 25 three-pointers against the Bulls, setting a new franchise record for home games as they rallied to win after falling behind by 21 points. Royce O’Neale and Lonnie Walker IV tied their career highs by hitting six treys each, with Walker IV doing so for the second time in four games. Mikal Bridges matched his career high with 45 points in last Wednesday’s overtime game at the Hawks. Spencer Dinwiddie recently climbed into fifth place on the Nets’ all-time NBA assists list, and he has also become just the third player in franchise history with at least 1,500 assists and 500 three-pointers made, joining our new NetsOnYES colleague Vince Carter and Hall of Famer Jason Kidd. Both 19 years old, Dariq Whitehead and Noah Clowney made their NBA debuts Saturday against Miami, becoming the second-youngest and third-youngest players to debut in franchise history. They were both closer to turning 20 than Derrick Favors was when he debuted for the Nets at age 19 in October of 2010.

Know The Foes

Top scorers Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes are averaging 39.0 PPG combined for the Raptors this season, although Toronto has already been eliminated from advancing past Group Play in the In-Season Tournament. LaMelo Ball was recently on a heater for Charlotte, averaging 32.2 PPG over nine games from November 5-22, although Brooklyn limited Ball to just eight points when the Nets won their first meeting with the Hornets on Oct. 30. Ball is dealing with a sprained right ankle he suffered in a game against Orlando on Sunday. Paolo Banchero has averaged 23.6 PPG on 56.1 percent field-goal shooting over the last five games of the Magic’s winning streak.

11.28_A Dazzling Fact[100][34]

A Dazzling Fact

As they rallied past Chicago on Sunday, the Nets pulled off the kind of turnaround that had only been previously seen once during an NBA game in almost thirty years! They fell into their 21-point hole late in the first quarter, then Brooklyn used its deluge of three-pointers to quickly erase the deficit, and the Nets even took a ten-point lead shortly before halftime. Going back to the start of the 1996-97 season, it was just the second time a team fell behind by at least 20 points in the first quarter and recovered to take a double-digit lead in the second quarter. The other: a matchup on Dec. 14, 2015, when the Pacers erased their own 21-point deficit and went up by 15 on the way to defeating the Raptors. Stay with YES and the YES App to make sure you see all the excitement that the Nets deliver!
