The Yankees have optioned INF/OF Miguel Andujar, INF Thairo Estrada and RHP Nick Nelson to the team's alternate site, the club announced Thursday morning.
With Major League rosters shrinking from 30 players to 28 on Thursday, the Yankees had to make a few moves to trim their group of active players. The moves do leave a spot open on the team's roster, which currently sits at 27 players.
Despite a strong rookie campaign in 2018 (followed by an injury that limited him to just 12 games last year), Andujar has found his playing time limited in the early going this season. The 25-year-old has recorded just 14 plate appearances with one hit, and the Yankees likely feel Andujar is best served receiving more reps at the team's alternate site.
Estrada has appeared in two games this season, notching two hits and an RBI. Nelson, meanwhile, has made two appearances out of the Yankees bullpen.
MLB announced Thursday that active rosters will remain at 28 players through the end of 2020 campaign, including the postseason. Doubleheaders will allow teams to use a 29th player.
