The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will square off in the highly anticipated “Field of Dreams”-inspired matchup on Aug. 12, 2021, Major League Baseball announced Monday.

Postponed from its originally scheduled date of Aug.13, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the game will take place in Dyersville, Iowa, marking the first big-league game ever held in the state.

The film “Field of Dreams” was released in 1989 and remains one of the most beloved baseball movies ever made, featuring stars like Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta and others.

“Is this Heaven?” asks the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson. “No, it’s Iowa,” replies Ray Kinsella, the farmer played by Costner who builds a ballpark in a corn field with the hopes of helping Jackson, his late father’s idol, get another chance to play baseball again after being banned for his role in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

“**If you build it, they will come**,” echoes a mysterious voice in Kinsella’s head.

While social distancing and safety precautions may ultimately prevent fans from watching the game in person next August, MLB has constructed an 8,000-fan ballpark to showcase the game.

The field itself is not the exact same one used in the movie, but it is in close proximity to the old movie set and will feature an outfield wall with windows to better reveal the corn stalks in the outfield.

The game is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience for baseball players and fans alike, and now MLB has set the stage for it to take place next season.
