2017: Judge launches one into orbit

Aaron Judge launches a 495-foot home run in the sixth inning against Logan Verrett and the Orioles. The ball clears the bleachers in left-center and lands just in front of the retired numbers. It is the longest home run of his career, and the longest homer hit by a Yankees player in the Statcast era. Judge adds another home run in the seventh, and the Yankees demolish the Orioles, 14-3.

2010: Pettitte joins exclusive club

Andy Pettitte wins his 200th game as a Yankee, beating the Astros, 4-3, at the Stadium. He becomes the third Yankee to win 200 games with the team, joining Whitey Ford and Red Ruffing.

2003: Six Astros pitchers no-hit Yanks

Using a record six pitchers, the Astros no-hit the Yankees, the first time they are no-hit since Orioles' knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm accomplished the feat in 1958. Roy Oswalt, Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner are responsible for stopping the Yankees’ streak at 6,980 games.

2000: What’s up, Doc?

The Yankees sign right-hander Dwight Gooden after he was released by the Rays on May 25. Gooden gets his second go-around with the Yankees and pitches to a 3.36 ERA in 18 games (five starts) with the team, then makes two appearances in the postseason. He was re-signed before the 2001 season but is cut in Spring Training and retires.

1999: Mariano’s 100th save

After the Yankees bullpen allows two runs in the ninth inning at Pro Player Stadium against the Marlins, Mariano Rivera is called on with two on, two out and an 8-4 lead. It takes him two pitches to get the game-ending groundout and his 100th career save.

1995: Jeter and Rivera sent to Triple-A

Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are both sent back to Triple-A. The two of them console each other at a New Jersey restaurant. Rivera would come and go a couple more times that season, Jeter returns to the Majors in September 1995, and both players would get called back up in 1996 for good. The rest is history.

1993: Seagulls invade in Milwaukee

The Yankees-Brewers game at County Stadium is interrupted by hundreds of seagulls who fly down onto the field, apparently in search of moths who had hatched the previous night following a Paul McCartney concert. The Yankees eventually win on a two-run, pinch-hit homer by Kevin Maas in the ninth inning, which clinched the 5-4 victory. The seagulls would return during the following night’s game, but the Brewers were ready. “Gus the wonder dog,” on loan from a local Wisconsin waterfowl association, shoos them away.

1988: Who says pitchers can’t hit?

Yankees designated hitter Rick Rhoden hits a sacrifice fly in New York's 8-6 win over Baltimore. He is the first pitcher to start a game as a DH since the rule was adopted in 1973.

1961: M&M Boys power Yanks

In the nightcap of a doubleheader, Roger Maris blasts two solo homers and Mickey Mantle adds a three-run shot as the M&M Boys drive in all five runs in a 5-1 victory over the Angels. In Game 1, the Yankees win, 2-1, behind a complete game from Ralph Terry and Yogi Berra's two solo home runs.

1958: Turley outduels Terry

After cruising to a win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Athletics, Yankees pitcher Bob Turley twirls a complete game, outdueling former (and future) Yankee Ralph Terry. The Yankees walk it off on a bases loaded walk by Virgil Trucks, drawn by pinch-hitter Jerry Lumpe.

1936: Rolfe’s first walk-off

After the Tigers score two runs in the top of the 10th, the Yankees answer. Red Rolfe is the hero, lining a two-run walk-off double into center field to give the Yankees a 10-9 win. It is Rolfe’s first-career walk-off hit.

1915: Pinch-hit specialist

At the Polo Grounds in a 10-9 victory over the White Sox, Ray Caldwell becomes first Major Leaguer to hit a home run in consecutive pinch-hit appearances. The Yankees pitcher, who wins 19 games that season, hit the first of his two round trippers as a pinch hitter the day before, also against Chicago.
