The New York Yankees announced the return of the New York Yankees STEM Scholars Program in partnership with STEM Educational Institute, Inc. Introduced in 2022 and embarking on its fourth edition this week at Yankee Stadium, the initiative provides underrepresented New York City high school students the technological skills needed to enter today’s workforce and the tools to work toward building generational wealth.
The STEM Educational Institute (SEI) is a program that serves as a career bridge for high school students to enter into STEM fields and college majors. Students participate in a one-year program that starts in the summer. Upon completion, students receive a stipend, college scholarship and access to an alumni learning platform, allowing them continuing education opportunities. This year, two former SEI students — Margaret De-Sosoo (2023) & Isatou Mybe (2024) — will serve as program interns.
During this summer’s weeklong itinerary at Yankee Stadium, students are participating in an in-person curriculum that includes:
- STEM: Students receive hands-on training to learn the computer language, Python, utilizing it to solve real-world problems.
- Financial Literacy: Students learn the basics of budgeting and investing to prepare and save for college.
- Mental Health: Students receive guidance on how to study efficiently and cope with stress.
The program will conclude with an on-field pregame ceremony on Friday, July 25, prior to the Yankees’ game vs. Philadelphia.
“The New York Yankees are proud of the ongoing partnership with the STEM Educational Institute and the organizations’ shared commitment to developing the next generation of STEM leaders and professionals,” said Brian Smith, Yankees Senior Vice President of Corporate/Community Relations. “We are so excited to continue this program for a fourth consecutive year as we further cultivate a diverse network of young STEM talent in the Bronx and its surrounding communities. By instilling participants with tangible skills, such as STEM expertise and financial literacy, the New York Yankees STEM Scholars program empowers young people from underserved populations with critical components for workplace success and long-term personal stability.”
“Over the years, we have witnessed the dynamic changes in technology and the subsequent impact it has on education. By leveraging predictive analytics into our curriculum, we can provide students with the skills necessary to thrive and obtain generational wealth,” said Nikisha Alcindor, President and Founder of STEM Educational Institute, Inc. “The STEM Educational Institute has been transforming students’ lives — and will continue to do so for many years to come. By engaging alumni as interns within the program, we create meaningful pathways for workforce development. Our partnership with the New York Yankees allows us to push the boundaries of what is possible for those who are less fortunate, and we are grateful for their continued support.”
Looking ahead, the STEM Educational Institute will host its inaugural SEI Summit — Mind the Gap: Intelligence in Transition — in May 2026 at a location to be announced. The event will be a groundbreaking, cross-sector conference bringing together educators, technologists, business leaders, and policymakers to address the widening gap between K–12 education and the rapidly evolving demands of an AI-powered workforce.
