New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius has been cleared to resume baseball activities, just days after it was feared he could be lost for the postseason.

Manager Aaron Boone confirmed the news on The Michael Kay Show.

"He got good news, cleared to go," Boone told Kay. "He might be down there as we speak doing his tee and toss. He should be able to get all his work in (Wednesday) and hopefully everything goes well. We are very optimistic with where's he at."

Gregorius tore cartilage in his right wrist on Saturday when he dove into home plate and scored the walk-off run against Baltimore that clinched the Yankees' wild-card berth.

Kay broke the news Wednesday and said the Yankees planned for Gregorius to play this weekend before the Yankees meet Oakland in the American League Wild Card Game next week.

"That's certainly the hope," Boone said of Gregorius being ready to go for the winner-take-all Wild Card Game. "We have to get through these days where we amp up his baseball activities. But we feel like we are moving in a positive direction."

On Sunday, Gregorius had a cortisone injection, and on Monday, he said he didn't think he'd have to miss the rest of the regular season or the postseason.

Gregorius, 28, is batting .268 with a career-high 27 home runs this season.
