The Yankees have hired Indians director of pitching Matt Blake as their next pitching coach, general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Monday at the GM Meetings.
Blake had been with the Indians since 2015 and spent time as a scout for the Yankees before that.
In Blake's four years in Cleveland, he coached numerous All-Stars and aided the team's strong pitching development.
He's reportedly earned rave reviews from numerous pitchers in baseball, including former Indian Trevor Bauer:
The Yankees primarily looked at younger coaches in their search, such as the University of Michigan's Chris Fetter and Arkansas' Matt Hobbs. They also interviewed current YES analyst David Cone, who pitched for the Yankees from 1995-2000.
