Yankees News & Views: Hal Steinbrenner
On Thursday, Hal Steinbrenner was a guest on Jack Curry’s “Yankees News & Views,” which you can watch exclusively on the YES App or listen to audio-only via Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Hal spoke with Jack about a variety of topics including the potential for the Yanks to sign Juan Soto to a long-term deal. The Yankees’ Managing General Partner and Chairperson said that he would be open to discussing a potential contract extension with Soto’s representation during the season, something Hal said he doesn’t tend to do normally, but he also said “this is a unique situation and a very unique player.” Download the YES App to watch the full interview: http://onelink.to/yesapp
Pinstriped Pulse
The Yankees open a seven-game homestand this evening with the first of three against the White Sox, which will be followed by four games against Seattle. They return to New York as the first team to 30 wins in the American League, and at 30-15 the Yanks own the second-best record in the Majors behind the 31-14 Phillies. Their pitching staff has not allowed a run in 26.0 innings, 19.0 from starters and 7.0 from relievers. Anthony Volpe is riding a nine-game hitting streak during which he is batting .341 with three home runs. Giancarlo Stanton has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games and has logged at least one hit in nine of his last 10.

How ‘Bout That
Aaron Judge is returning to the Stadium on quite a run. He’s batting .462 with five home runs since May 4, and over his last two games the captain has done something previously accomplished by just one other Yankee. On Wednesday he homered, logged three doubles and drew a walk in the Yanks’ win over Minnesota, then he followed up yesterday with two more doubles and another walk. Those performances made Judge the first Yank since the legendary Joe DiMaggio to have six extra-base hits and a pair of walks in a two-game span, and Joltin’ Joe did it all the way back in 1937, the second season of his iconic career. How will number 99 light up the Bronx sky over the next week?

Know The Foe
The White Sox have won six of their last eight games, although due to a rough April the team has the worst season record in the AL at 14-30. A mid-April signing, Tommy Pham is batting .319 in 18 games with the club. Paul DeJong leads the team with six home runs. Seven Chicago players have double-digit RBI, although the leader – former Yankee Andrew Benintendi – has just 14. A lifetime .275 hitter in five MLB seasons entering this year, Eloy Jiménez is batting just .216. Closer Michael Kopech has strung together five straight scoreless appearances including three saves. Key players out of action for the Sox right now include Luis Robert Jr. (right hip flexor strain) and Yoán Moncada (left adductor strain).

Probable Pitchers
Nestor Cortes gets the call in tonight’s series opener while the White Sox counter with Mike Clevinger. Luis Gil will aim to continue his impressive season tomorrow when he takes the ball opposite Brad Keller, an offseason signing who spent the previous six seasons with the Royals. Keller was recently moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation to replace the struggling Michael Soroka. Carlos Rodón and Chris Flexen are lined up for Sunday’s series finale.
