Pete Stendel, longtime cameraman for YES Network and Major League Baseball, suffered an orbital fracture during Wednesday night's Yankees - Orioles game when he was struck in the head by a wayward throw from Baltimore infielder Gunnar Henderson.
According to an update from Stendel's family, Pete is at home resting and appreciates everyone's support. Stendel underwent further testing after being carted off the field but was conscious as he arrived at the hospital. Stendel received an outpouring of support and "MVP" chants from the Yankee Stadium crowd as he exited the field.
"I hope he's doing all right," Henderson said after the game. "My prayers go out to him. I'm just thankful for the guys that rushed over there to him to help him."
"I think I speak for all of us when I say our thoughts are with him," Yankees outfielder Jake Bauers said. "Hope he's doing all right and he's feeling better and we see him back here soon."
Aaron Boone also shared his recollection of the moment and offered well-wishes for Stendel. "Definitely praying for him. It was good to see him obviously coherent and obviously raising his hand going off, but I saw it pretty well right away and it was very scary," said Boone. "Obviously a difficult scene there, and just hoping he's OK."
"Pete is the ultimate teammate," Jack Curry said during Wednesday's postgame coverage on YES. "He was not even scheduled to be the camera person in the first-base area tonight, he was filling in on a very hot and humid night and making sure others could get a little bit of a break. We send all the best to Pete. Everybody who has ever met Pete loves this guy – hard worker, fun guy to be around."
