BROOKLYN – The Brooklyn Nets have signed free agent forward Trendon Watford. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Watford (6’8”, 237) appeared in 62 games (12 starts) last season with the Portland Trail Blazers and averaged 7.4 points on 56.0 percent shooting from the field, 39.1 percent shooting from 3-point range and 72.0 percent shooting from the free-throw line, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.1 minutes per game.
From the beginning of March through the end of the 2022-23 regular season (17 games), the 22-year-old Watford recorded averages of 12.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 25.6 minutes per game, scoring in double figures in 12 of his last 14 games played. In 110 games (22 starts) over two seasons (2021-23) with Portland, Watford holds career averages of 7.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 18.6 minutes per contest while shooting 54.7 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from distance and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Prior to going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Birmingham, Ala., native spent two years (2019-21) at Louisiana State University where he earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors in 2020 and All-SEC Second Team accolades as a sophomore in 2021.
