2017: The Price is right

The Yankees’ tormenting of David Price continues. Gary Sanchez homers off Price twice, first a three-run shot in the third, then a two-run blast in the fifth. The Yankees tag Price for six runs in five innings, and Michael Pineda throws seven innings, striking out eight while allowing only an unearned run. The Yankees defeat the Red Sox, 9-1, to win the series.

2013: It’s a family thing

On the same day his son Josh is selected by the Yankees in the 37th round of the MLB Draft, Andy Pettitte earns his 250th career win with a 3-1 victory over the Mariners. Pettitte allows three hits and one run while striking out six over 7 1/3 innings. Josh, as expected, elects college in lieu of signing.

2007: Jeter walks it off

In the bottom of the 10th with one out and the bases loaded, Derek Jeter singles off Matt Capps of the Pirates, scoring Robinson Cano for the walk-off win. It is Jeter’s sixth regular season walk-off hit.

2005: A-Rod joins the 400-homer club

Alex Rodriguez becomes the youngest player to reach 400 home runs when he hits two at Milwaukee at the age of 29 years, 316 days, breaking the record of former Mariners teammate Ken Griffey Jr. The milestone comes in the eighth inning off Milwaukee’s Jorge de la Rosa.

1989: Sweet Sax music

After blowing a 7-2 lead through six innings against the Red Sox, the Yankees get the walk-off win in the 11th inning thanks to a Steve Sax RBI single.

1984: Steve Kemp’s walk-off

Phil Niekro allows three runs over eight innings and Dave Righetti throws three shutout innings before the Yankees can earn the walk-off win. With two outs in the 11th inning against the Blue Jays, Dave Winfield singles and steals second before Steve Kemp brings him home with a walk-off single. The Yankees win, 4-3.

1983: Sweet Lou gets it done

After the Yankees blew a 5-2 eighth-inning lead, they walk off in the bottom of the ninth when Lou Piniella hits the game-ending single, scoring Dave Winfield, who led off the inning with a double.

1981: John Elway: baseball player?

The Yankees select John Elway in the second round of the 1981 draft. He plays one season in the Minors for Class A Oneonta in 1982, hitting .318 with four home runs in 151 at-bats. He is drafted first overall by the Baltimore Colts in the 1983 NFL draft, but uses his baseball career as leverage to force a trade because he doesn’t want to play for the moribund franchise. He is traded to the Denver Broncos and chooses football over baseball.

1971: Louisiana Lightning is drafted

The Yankees draft Ron Guidry in the 3rd round of the 1971 draft.

1969: Mickey Mantle Day

Mickey Mantle Day takes place in New York. Mantle's No.7 is retired and plaques he exchanges with Joe DiMaggio will hang on the center field wall at Yankee Stadium. DiMaggio's plaque comes as a surprise to the Yankee Clipper. The Yankees then sweep the White Sox with 3-1 and 11-2 wins.

1948: Bobby Brown sends ‘em home happy

For the second time in three days, Bobby Brown is the hero. This time, his walk-off single in the 12th inning scores Yogi Berra and lifts the Yankees to a 3-2 win over the White Sox.

1942: A bunt ends high-scoring thriller

With 3,412 fans at Yankee Stadium in attendance for a wild one, the Yanks and Indians are tied at 10 through nine innings. With runners on first and second, Joe Gordon’s bunt is misplayed allowing the Yankees an 11-10 win. The teams combine for 21 runs, 31 hits and 10 walks. Time of game: 2:30.

1939: The Bronx Bombers

At Shibe Park, the Yankees rout the A's, 22-3. The Yankees set a franchise record, hitting eight home runs during the contest, a mark which will not be tied for 68 years.

1935: Gehrig’s near miss

Lou Gehrig collides with Carl Reynolds on a play at first base and leaves the game with arm and shoulder injuries. His consecutive streak is preserved, in part, by a rainout of the next day's game and an open date.

1927: Lazzeri is first Yankee with three-homer game

Tony Lazzeri becomes the first player in Yankees history to hit three home runs in one game. He does it against the White Sox, including an inside-the-park homer in the eighth inning and the game-tying two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth as the Yankees force extra innings with five runs in the frame. After Cedric Durst leads off the bottom of the 11th with a triple, Lazzeri steps to the plate with a chance for his fourth long ball, but he is intentionally walked. Ray Morehart is up next with runners on the corners, and he singles to right. The Yankees win, 12-11. For Lazzeri, it is the first of two three-homer games during his Hall of Fame career.

1921: Babe arrested, gets police escort to ballpark

Babe Ruth is arrested for speeding in New York, fined $100 and held in jail until 4 p.m.. Game time is 3:15, so a uniform is taken to him. He changes in jail and follows a police escort to the ballpark where he enters with New York trailing, 3-2. The Yanks rally for a 4-3 walk-off win over the Indians.
