2010: Posada slams again, Cano hits 100th homer

Jorge Posada hits his seconnd grand slam in as many days against the Astros in back-to-back wins at Yankee Stadium. Also in this game, Robinson Cano hits his 100th career home run.

2004: Yanks get to Hoffman, win in 12th inning

Former Yankees pitcher David Wells tosses seven scoreless innings for the Padres in his return to Yankee Stadium, while Javier Vazquez allows two runs over 8 innings. But the Yankees hit back-to-back two-out home runs off Trevor Hoffman in the 9th. First Hideki Matsui, then pinch-hitter Kenny Lofton. The game heads to extra innings, and after the Padres score three runs in the top of the 12th, the Yankees make the stirring comeback in the bottom of the frame. Another former Yankees pitcher, Jay Witasick, gives up the game-tying ground-rule double, and Ruben Sierra walks it off on a sacrifice fly. Yankees defeat the Padres, 6-5.

2003: Rocket reaches 300

Roger Clemens – in his fourth try - joins the elite 300 win club. He is the 21st pitcher to reach the milestone after the Yankees defeat the Cardinals 5-2 in an interleague match-up. He also becomes the third pitcher to record 4,000 strikeouts, joining Nolan Ryan and Steve Carlton.

1978: White homers from both sides

Roy White homers from both sides of the plate. He ties the game in the third inning with a solo shot, before giving the Yankees the lead in the fifth with a two-run blast. The Yankees defeat the Athletics, 5-3.

1970: Magic trick

One of the five times Gene “Stick” Michael pulled off the hidden-ball trick during his MLB career, he fools the Royals’ Joe Keough in a 9-4 Yankees win.

1948: Honoring the Babe

With the crowd of 49,641 singing 'Auld Lang Syne' to the Babe, the Yankees celebrate the silver anniversary of Yankee Stadium by holding 'Babe Ruth Day'. With members of the 1923 team looking on, the dying superstar's uniform number 3 is retired and sent to Cooperstown.

1942: Henrich’s walk-off homer

After tying the game with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 9th, Tommy Henrich sends the fans home happy with a walk-off homer in the 10th. Yankees defeat the Browns, 4-3.

1937: Joltin’ Joe hits three in a row

In Game 2 of a doubleheader, Joe DiMaggio homers in three consecutive at bats against the St. Louis Browns, including the game-tying blow in the top of the 9th. The game heads to extra innings and ends tied at 8 after the 11th inning. Game 1 had been won by the Yankees, 16-9, when they scored 7 runs in the top of the 9th.

1924: Meusel starts game-ending brawl

After Bob Meusel gets hit with a pitch in his back in the top of the ninth, the Yankees outfielder hurls his bat at Tigers pitcher Bert Cole and charges the mound. The resulting melee, including players, fans and police, lasts for nearly 30 minutes. When ump Billy Evans is unable to clear the field he forfeits the game to New York, 10-6

1921: Babe does it all

Babe Ruth pitches the first five innings and hits two home runs as the Yankees defeat Detroit, 13-8. Ruth earns the win. It was his second as a Yankees pitcher. His first home run is hit 460 feet into the center-field bleachers at the Polo Grounds, the first HR ever hit to that spot.
