Aaron Boone told media members prior to the team's Subway Series opener on Tuesday that Domingo German, sidelined since June 7 with a left hip flexor strain, will be activated off the injured list and start against the Mets Wednesday.
German, 26, was a possible All-Star candidate prior to joining the IL, with a 9-2 record and 3.86 ERA through his first 13 appearances.
The Yankees have recently employed the "opener" strategy with great success, but fortifying the rotation with another quality arm like German will be a huge addition as the first half of 2019 comes to a close.
The Yankees open up a two-game set against the Mets on Tuesday night looking for their 14th win in the last 15 games. The two teams split their first Subway Series match-up in the Bronx in a double-header on June 11.
Stay tuned for more news and developments as German prepares to make his comeback for the first-place Bombers this week.
