Yankees acquire LHP Wandy Peralta and a player to be named later

The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that they have acquired LHP Wandy Peralta and a player to be named later from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for OF Mike Tauchman.

Peralta, 29, is 2-1 with two saves and a 5.40 ERA (8.1IP, 11H, 5ER, 3BB, 8K, 1HR) in 10 relief appearances with the Giants in 2021. Over six Major League seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (2016-19) and San Francisco Giants (2019-21), he has gone 9-9 with two saves and a 4.72 ERA (192.2IP, 195H, 110R/101ER, 92BB, 158K, 26HR) in 220 relief appearances.

In 2020, the left-handed pitcher went 1-1 with a 3.29 ERA (27.1IP, 22H, 13R/10ER, 11BB, 25K, 3HR) in 25 relief outings, holding left-handed batters to a .171 (7-for-41) opponents’ batting average with 12K. He struck out at least one batter in 19 of his 25 games, averaging 8.23 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.

The San Francisco de Macoris, D.R., native was originally signed by Cincinnati as a non-drafted free agent on August 17, 2009. He was claimed off waivers by San Francisco from Cincinnati on September 3, 2019.

Tauchman, 30, has hit .214 (3-for-14) with 1R, 1 double and 1BB in 11 games with the Yankees in 2021. In five Major League seasons with the Colorado Rockies (2017-18) and Yankees (2019-21), the left-handed batter has hit .250 (107-for-428) with 72R, 26 doubles, 2 triples, 13HR, 63RBI and 58BB in 193 career games. The Palatine, Ill., native was acquired by the Yankees from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for LHP Phillip Diehl on March 23, 2019. He was originally selected by the Rockies in the 10th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Bradley University.
