Yankees claim INF CJ Alexander off waivers from Athletics

The Yankees claimed INF CJ Alexander off waivers from the Athletics on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Alexander, 28, has batted .176 (3-for-17) in six games for the Athletics this season. The left-handed batter has also hit .252/.348/.509 (40-for-159) with 31 runs, seven doubles, two triples, 10 HR, 33RBI, 24BB and 2SB in 42 games with Triple-A Las Vegas this year. He was designated for assignment on June 5.

Over parts of seven Minor League seasons with the Atlanta Braves (2018-19, ’21-22), Kansas City Royals (2022-24) and Athletics (2024-25), Alexander batted .254/.320/.461 (487-for-1,919) with 281 runs, 98 doubles, 22 triples, 85HR, 303RBI, 184BB and 48SB in 524 career games. The Merrillville, Ind., native was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 20th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. Alexander was acquired by Kansas City along with RHP Andrew Hoffman and OF Drew Waters in exchange for a Competitive Balance Draft Pick (35th overall) on July 10, 2022. He made his Major League debut with the Royals on June 24, 2024 and appeared in four games before being released on Sept. 3, 2024. He was then claimed off waivers by the Athletics on Sept. 4, 2024.
