Yankees acquire outfielders Jace Avina, Brian Sánchez

The New York Yankees Friday announced that they have acquired Minor League outfielders Jace Avina and Brian Sánchez from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for INF/OF Jake Bauers.

Avina, 20, has hit .249 (136-for-547) with 101R, 34 doubles, 5 triples, 29HR, 104RBI, 83BB and 14SB in 163 games over two Minor League seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers organization (2022-23). In 2023, the right-handed batter hit .233 (76-for-326) with 57R, 22 doubles, 2 triples, 14HR, 50RBI, 56BB and 10SB in 99 games with Single-A Carolina. The Reno, Nev., native was originally selected by the Brewers in the 14th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. 

Sánchez, 19, made his professional debut in 2023, hitting .297/.414/.446 (30-for-101) with 20R, 7 doubles, 4 triples, 19RBI, 20BB and 8SB in 33 games with the DSL Brewers 1. The Cumanacoa, Venezuela, native was originally signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a non-drafted free agent on Feb. 7, 2023.

Bauers, 28, hit .202 (49-for-242) with 28R, 15 doubles, 12HR, 30RBI, 27BB and 3SB in 84 games with the Yankees in 2023. He was signed by the Yankees as a Minor League free agent on December 9, 2022. Over parts of four Major League seasons with Tampa Bay (2018), Cleveland (2019, ’21), Seattle (2021) and Yankees (2023), the left-handed batter has hit .211 (257-for-1,219) with 149R, 60 doubles, 3 triples, 39HR, 140RBI and 156BB in 412 games. The Newport Beach, Calif., native was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
