Yankees option LHP Chasen Shreve to Triple-A
NEW YORK - The Yankees announced following Monday's win over Tampa Bay that they have optioned left-hander Chasen Shreve to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The move was made to open a spot for fellow southpaw Jordan Montgomery, who will make his major-league debut as the starting pitcher in Wednesday afternoon's game against the Rays. The Yankees will also have to open a spot on the 40-man roster, which they can do any time before Wednesday morning.
Shreve pitched in three of the Yankees' seven games so far this season, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out two over three scoreless innings. The 26-year-old, who was acquired from Atlanta on January 1, 2015, is in his third season with the organization, and has gone 8-3 with a 3.72 ERA and one save in 99 major-league games in pinstripes.
