Deron Williams signs his new contract with the Nets via iPad.(
Score one for the Brooklyn Nets, and score one for technology as well.

Point guard Deron Williams signed his new five-year, $98 million contract minutes after the NBA’s moratorium was lifted at midnight Wednesday, but took a different approach to putting his name on the dotted line; instead of the classic pen and paper route, Williams – who is in Las Vegas training with the USA National Team that is headed to the Olympics later this month – inked the deal on his Apple iPad.

"Officially a Brooklyn Net! Signed my contract on an iPad Just thank God for this wonderful Opportunity #HelloBrooklyn," Williams Tweeted early Wednesday morning, also sharing the picture seen at left.

Williams is no stranger to making big announcements on Twitter; he also used took to the service to announce his decision to remain with the Nets on July 3 by Tweeting, “Made a very tough decision today….,” with a picture of the Brooklyn Nets logo attached.

And now, technology has made that decision is official…although Williams did use a little old-fashioned verbal communication to fully convey his excitement about returning to the Nets.

“I am really excited to be able to officially say that Brooklyn is home,” Williams said. “It is an incredible time to play in Brooklyn and to be a part of this organization, the first sports team to call Brooklyn home in over 50 years.”

Before he decided on the Nets, there was speculation that the three-time All Star would head to his hometown Dallas Mavericks, but he chose to stay with the team that will begin their first season at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn this fall.

“We are obviously thrilled that Deron will lead the Nets into our new home in Brooklyn,” Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement. “Deron is in my opinion the top point guard in the NBA. With his leadership and guidance on and off the court, the fans of Brooklyn should be proud.” comments
