YES Network broadcaster and ex-Yankee Bobby Murcer, who's been battling brain cancer for the past year, underwent a biopsy Monday where results revealed the 61-year-old is cancer-free.

"We received great news this morning," said Murcer. "The biopsy revealed scar tissue. It showed no signs of cancer. We are very excited about this news.

"It's what we had hoped for all along. We are checking out today (from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston) and are flying back to Oklahoma. I plan on resting at home over the next few weeks and focusing my energies on returning to the Stadium for its final Opening Day.

"My family and I thank everyone for their prayers, emails, cards and thoughts."

Four days after Murcer was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in December of 2006, the 17-year Major League veteran underwent surgery and received radiation and chemotherapy. He then returned to the broadcast booth in time for Yankees' Opening Day.
